The board members and the award jury have selected you and your organization for the Mahatma Award for Healthcare Excellence 2022.
The Mahatma Award is inspired by the spirit of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, fondly known as the Mahatma. The award was founded and instituted by social entrepreneur and philanthropist Mr. Amit Sachdeva, widely known as “The CSR Man of India.”
Mr. Amit Sachdeva, a dedicated Gandhian who follows the principles of Mahatma Gandhi, is an expert in corporate sustainability and social responsibility. He played a pivotal role in lobbying for the CSR Bill 2013 and continues to support and invest in various NGOs and non-profit organizations (NPOs) around the world.
The annual award is supported by the Aditya Birla Group, which has a long-standing association with Mahatma Gandhi since the time of Ghanshyam Das Birla, the founding father of the illustrious multinational group. To continue this legacy and recognize deserving individuals and organizations, the Aditya Birla Group continues to support the prestigious Mahatma Award.
The Mahatma Award recognizes and celebrates impact leaders and changemakers across the globe who are creating meaningful social impact and leading the way toward a sustainable future. Since its inception, the award has honored initiatives in areas such as sustainability, philanthropy, shared value, and corporate social responsibility across the private, public, and development sectors.
Since its launch in 2017, the Mahatma Award has honored more than 350 organizations and impact leaders across various sectors. Notable recipients include Ratan Tata, the Tata Group, Rajashree Birla, Azim Premji, Wipro, Manish Sisodia, Shabana Azmi, Bindeshwar Pathak, Google Ad Grants, IBM Foundation, Microsoft Philanthropy, Piramal Foundation, ITC, Capgemini, Save the Children, and many other global organizations and leaders.
The Mahatma Award 2022 ceremony was held in New Delhi on October 1, 2022, at the India International Centre, where all the awardees were felicitated.

This was in the year 2004, when the World’s Open Directory Forum selected 33 doctors and institutions worldwide who had worked originally in the field of retinal degeneration. Dr. Banga was placed at the top of this list, while even Washington Retina Associates were ranked much lower. The list was manually verified by the forum.
Hakim Ajmal Khan Global Award – 2009
Dr. Ved Prakash Banga received the Hakim Ajmal Khan Global Award in 2009 for being recognized as the Best Acupuncture Physician for his work in finding a treatment for Retinitis Pigmentosa.
The award was presented by Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the then Honorable Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, on 5th August 2009 in New Delhi.
